DIBELS Benchmark Data Interpretation & Progress Monitoring

"I've benchmarked with DIBELS, now I want to know what the data is telling me and how to best use the progress monitoring feature of DIBELS."

One of our qualified DIBELS trainers will spend 2 days in your school or district training.  This training includes:

Day 1

  • There will be an informative overview on how to interpret the DIBELS data that you have already collected. For example, being able to read a box plot is very useful for interpreting the DIBELS data and we cover that in an easy to understand 10 minute lesson.

  • There will be a customized presentation of your own data. This is covered in detail with time built in for the audience to process the information and ask detailed questions. The scores from multiple schools within your district can be compared and contrasted if you would like. This is a customized presentation so details on what will be covered can be worked out prior to the training taking place.

  • Progress Monitoring with DIBELS will be covered in detail. Attendees will be introduced to the progress monitoring features of DIBELS using both paper and pencil and the DIBELS web to track reading improvement over short periods of time.

  • It is recommended that district administrators (Superintendent, Curriculum Director, the Director of Special Education etc.), principals, and teachers attend the first half of day 1. It is not uncommon for us to be asked to do this presentation a second time for those administrators who were unable to attend due to schedule conflicts or lack of previous awareness about how useful this information would be. Reading teachers and special educators should attend as much of the two days as possible.

Day 2

  • With guidance from the BEST Workshops' trainer, teachers will be given an opportunity to go through their own DIBELS class lists and determine reading groups, interventions, and progress monitoring lists.
  • Using computers with an internet connection, teachers will be walked through the DIBELS progress monitoring program and get their class lists organized.
  • A brief review of administration and scoring of some of the key DIBELS measures will be covered prior to beginning progress monitoring.
  • Different interventions will be discussed.

In order for this training to be maximally useful, we recommend scheduling it in between benchmark periods. For example, November, March, or May are very good months for this training.

Interested in an analysis of your academic and/or behavioral data at the district and building levels?  Our experts can help you with that. Be ready for the next presentation to the school board or the district administration. We will create a full report for you complete with an attractive powerpoint of your data.  Send us an email and be sure to include a daytime phone number.  One of our consultants will get back to you within 1 business day.
